Executive Director or Interim Executive Director or Temp to Hire

Position open ASAP. Interim or temp to hire can convert to permanent Executive Director, if both qualified and demonstrate ability to perform job. Compensation for Interim or temp to hire: $65,000 – $75,000 for fulltime; part-time will be prorated.

Duties of Interim / Temp to Hire:
1.      Office Manager for vendors and bill paying, overseeing bookkeeper and all financial records,
2.      Overseeing HR including biweekly payroll and use of PTOs, health insurance premiums through covered California, hiring, e.g., PM for Education/ Adv. paralegal PM and AAs and coordinators;
3.      General networking with outside agencies with related interests to PWDF mission;
4.      Ability to communicate with all, verbally and in writing without errors.
Operations Manager and MBA or CPA background helpful.

The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing management of the Public Awareness and Education Program, continuation of the Pilot Grant Program, and administrative functions of the agency, including working with the bookkeeper, overseeing vendors, and HR issues.

Duties: Executive Director is responsible for the following:
(1) General development, locating supportive partners, grant reviewing/writing and the monitoring of same.
(2) Oversee Public Awareness/Education program in any media including seminars, e newsletter, training videos, and guest speaking. Maximize utilization of agency web site. Supervise Manager of Public Awareness/Education.
(3) Oversee Pilot Grant program. Participation in preparing reports for the meeting of the Board of Directors of PWDF.
(4) Staff support for PWDF, including HR issues of staff.
(5) Administration of contracts relating to all vendors, and marketing PWDF’s educational videos. E.g., problems with CPA, bookkeeper, Quick Books and/or payroll, computers and other office equipment, office lease, office space, guest speaking including all logistics.
(6) Communications, coordination and cooperation with private, public and other non-profit agencies and organizations serving our target population.
(7) Monitor income and expenses; prepare reports.

Qualifications:

Must have excellent organizational, fiscal, and mathematical skills. Must be reliable, flexible and able to work within administrative deadlines, e.g., prepare invoices; work with bookkeeper, administer payroll/payroll taxes, obtain or renew insurance policies and meet insurance requirements, review financial spreadsheets for year-end audits, prepare bank deposits. The ideal candidate will be results-oriented, highly organized, and will possess the ability to work and communicate in diverse communities.
Proficient computer skills required, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and desktop publishing programs. Essential email and internet skills required; web design skills are a plus (WordPress).
Most importantly, candidates must be committed to providing excellent education and advocacy for people with mental/ and/or developmental disabilities and must be willing to work enthusiastically toward achieving this goal.

Required:
1. Licensed California Attorney or J.D. or Ph.D. or equivalent and minimum 8 to 10 years of relevant; e.g., civil rights nonprofit, experience.
2. Good communication skills, ability to write clearly including accuracy for detail with statistics in spreadsheets and other formats.
3. Strong entrepreneurial skills and the ability to establish and build a wide range of key relationships

Preferred:
1. Experience in Social Security Disability, employment, health care, other disability rights in both advocacy and education. Legal background helpful.

Responsibilities:

Program Management Leadership and Support:
Oversee all agency programs, services and activities. Work with staff to ensure that organization’s mission is being carried out in accordance with its strategic plan, and plan for periodic review and modification of programs to meet the continuously changing needs of the beneficiaries, and to meet the organization’s goal of fiscal responsibility. Continue to develop collaborative programs with other agencies, and ensure the highest levels of quality and customer service by inspiring staff to perform at their peak. Current affairs and research requirement; responsible for keeping abreast of mental health and disability issues as they pertain to disability (civil) rights, e.g., gathering health care news articles, governmental agencies reports and comments relating to same.

Fiscal Management:
Ensure that the budget supports implementation of the strategic plan. Ensure that the organization’s growth is supported internally in key areas: technology, facilities, human resources, fund development, and communications.

Administrative Management:
Continue to develop and implement appropriate human resource policies and procedures. Delegate effectively while continuing to mentor and support staff. Promote an organizational culture that fosters cooperation, open and frequent communications, and teamwork. Develop and foster an environment that maximizes employee growth and retention. Liaison duties with outside bookkeeper, professional program staff and funding sources.

Human Resources:
Recruit, train, manage, evaluate staff to ensure that resources are maximized and that organizational systems are effective. Manage the day to day operations; supervise and evaluate staff and contractors.
Other duties as requested.

Full Time – 35 hours a week; part-time will also be considered. Candidates who are interested in part-time should state so in cover letter.

Compensation: $65,000 – $90,000 annual base salary range, depending on experience, plus benefits. Salary for part-time will be pro-rated.  Benefits include health and dental insurance for employees who work 30 or more hours per week, vacation, commuter checks, etc., according to agency policy, effective after 90 days, and holidays.
