PWDF Supports Superfest’s 30th Anniversary

 

You’ll find lots of excitement at this special festival focusing on disability! PWDF is honored to be a community sponsor of Superfest, the world’s longest running disability film festival. Superfest celebrates disability as a creative force in cinema and culture. It features films with fresh ideas and images that will inspire thought and meaningful conversation.

Superfest returns for the 30th festival this year this October! Once again they’ll feature a wonderful line up of films from around the globe – Belgium to England, Israel and France.  Superfest is one of few festivals in the country that is fully accessible. All films will be presented with captioning and audio-description. Also, all live dialogue during the festival will be available with ASL (American Sign Language) and live captioning services.

This year’s Superfest will take place over two days at venues in Berkeley and San Francisco.

Saturday, October 22th
The Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life; 2121 Allston Way in Berkeley
Celebrate 30 years of Superfest with film screenings from 1-4 pm and 6-9 pm, as well as a 30th anniversary celebration from 4:30-6 pm.

Sunday, October 23rd
The Contemporary Jewish Museum; 736 Mission Street in San Francisco
Film screening from 1-4. Tickets include admission to the museum, which will offer ASL and audio description tours at 11 am.

Who We Are

People With Disabilities Foundation is an operating 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in San Francisco, California, which focuses on the rights of the mentally and developmentally disabled.

Services

Advocacy: PWDF advocates for Social Security claimant’s disability benefits in eight Bay Area counties. We also provide services in disability rights, on issues regarding returning to work, and in ADA consultations, including areas of employment, health care, and education, among others. There is representation before all levels of federal court and Administrative Law Judges. No one is declined due to their inability to pay, and we offer a sliding scale for attorney’s fees.

Education/Public Awareness: To help eliminate the stigma against people with mental disabilities in society, PWDF’s educational program organizes workshops and public seminars, provides guest speakers with backgrounds in mental health, and produces educational materials such as videos.

Continuing Education Provider: State Bar of California MCLE, California Board of Behavioral Sciences Continuing Education, and Commission of Rehabilitation Counselor Certification.
