Event: Integration of Adults with Autism Seminar – A Review

By: PWDF Staff

On December 6, 2016, PWDF hosted a Public Awareness Seminar entitled Integration of Adults with Autism into the Whole of Society. PWDF staff, in planning this seminar, noted that while there is adequate material and coverage on children on the Autism Spectrum, there is little cohesive information surrounding adults with autism. Concerns around diagnosis, treatment, independence and integration for adults diagnosed and perhaps still seeking diagnosis have come up in our experience with clients in our work. Grounded by these concerns, PWDF developed a public awareness seminar to gather leading local experts on topics of concern for adults with autism.

Moderated by Steven Bruce of PWDF, the seminar featured presentations by Robert Hendren, DO,
Psychiatrist, and Vanessa Bal, PhD, both of the University of California San Francisco; Sherri Kimbell, MA, LPC, PhDc, of Creating Behavioral and Educational Momentum (CBEM), Napa; Pilar Gonzalez, Esq., of Disability Rights California; and Timothy Roscoe Carter, Esq., of PWDF.

The event was lived streamed via YouTube and open to the public at the Koret Auditorium at the San Francisco Public Library. Archived video will be available on our YouTube channel for your viewing by the end of the year. Presentation materials and handouts are available on our website.

We appreciate all of the speakers for their time and willingness to share information pertinent to independent living for adults with autism.
