Education Program Update
By: PWDF Staff On January 24, 2017, People With Disabilities Foundation (PWDF) Program Coordinator Laurence Jones attended Disability Rights California Office of Clients’ Rights (OCRA’s) Chinese New Year celebration for Regional Center consumers and their families. It was held at Independent Living Resource Center of San Francisco (ILRCSF) and provided resources for community members seeking services. On February 8, 2017, PWDF Program Coordinator Todd Leachman hosted a visit to PWDF’s offices by The Specialists Guild. Luby Aczel and 5 interns from The Specialists Guild visited PWDF offices for an informative interview session and demonstration of PWDF’s programming and processes. Legal Director Steven Bruce detailed the founding of PWDF and the Advocacy Program. Education Program Coordinator Laurence Jones briefly described the overview and scope of the Education Program. Mr. Leachman held a demonstration of video editing for the group. This discussion walked students through the process and technicalities of getting footage from camera and/or archives to the editing environment and final production/output for YouTube. Students were encouraged to sit at the editing workstation and try to cut clips, add transition effects, and do color grading. On March 21, 2017, PWDF will present a workshop on Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) (Title II) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) (Title XVI) Work Incentive Rules and Overpayments at NAMI San Francisco. PWDF staff will facilitate the workshop on issues that may arise for beneficiaries with psychiatric and/or developmental disabilities when undergoing a work review by the Social Security Administration (SSA). Mr. Bruce presented an abbreviated version of this workshop to Social Security disability claimants’ attorneys and representatives at the Circuit 9 Conference in January.
